Born and raised in New Jersey, Marcy Karpowitz, founder of MKMCreative, grew up in a family business. Being immersed in an entrepreneurial-minded environment early on, she understood what it meant to work hard. There, Marcy gleaned her two greatest strengths: an indomitable work ethic and the determination to never quit.
As an owner, the concept of stopping isn’t an option. There is only the opportunity to create or make something right. Sheer determination is always followed by some form of breakthrough.
Post college, Marcy moved to San Francisco. Her career began in corporate retail. After years of growth and experience, Marcy transitioned to the agency side where her attention to detail, big picture strategic thinking, flawless execution and top-tier client service got her noticed.
Marcy spent the next few years further honing her skills and enjoying the work. Living in the epicenter of Silicon Valley, her next prudent move was to immerse herself in the tech space.
She accepted a position at a large agency with a top tier client roster in tech but quickly found herself longing for true partnerships and building custom programs. As she contemplated her next move, with uncertainty, she let the notion of working as a high-level consultant or agency owner begin to take hold.
Before deciding which route would best serve her career goals and aspirations, Marcy planned a 4-week trip with a friend to Cambodia and Thailand. Three days before she was to return to the US, she checked her messages and read a note from a former client requesting her independent services.
After assessing what was being asked, Marcy intuitively said to her friend “Well, I guess I’m going to launch my own agency.” Her friend responded, “Of course you are.” They ordered a round and celebrated.
Upon returning home, Marcy immediately kicked off that endeavor. Since the founding of MKMCreative and to this day, it’s clear what Marcy does is her calling and in her blood. On trying days or in high pressure moments, huddled up with the team, Marcy can be heard lightheartedly saying, ‘ Even when we hate it, we love it”, right before digging in to find the solve.
Decades in the brand, marketing and experiential sphere have brought diverse work, successful programs, talented team members, happy clients and a bragging-rights worthy roster. The entire team is motivated by the work ethic MKMCreative was founded on. It’s no surprise the agency motto is Whatever it Takes.
